Corak Malaysia Promotes Malaysian Motifs And Crafts At The Sixty-Fifth Series Of Assemblies Of The Member States Of The World Intellectual Property Organization
Corak Malaysia, an initiative by Ruzzgahara, proudly participated in the Sixty-Fifth Series of Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 9th to 17th of July.
This significant presence underscores the project’s commitment to promoting Malaysian new cultural heritage on a global stage.
In collaboration with the Malaysian Intellectual Property Organization (MyIPO) and the Malaysian Craft Council (MCC), Corak Malaysia hosted an exhibition under the theme “Creative, Sustainable ASEAN” facilitated by ASEAN Working Group on lntellectual Properiy Cooperatian (AWGIPC) at WIPO headquarters’ lobby throughout the assembly.
The exhibition was supported by Yayasan Hasanah, a foundation under Khazanah Nasional Berhad, and the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Malaysia. This partnership highlights the collective effort to elevate Malaysia’s cultural and intellectual property on an international platform.
The exhibition featured Corak Malaysia’s unique motifs, which have been registered under MyIPO, and transformed into a diverse range of craft merchandise. These items not only celebrate Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage but also emphasize the sustainable and creative aspects of ASEAN craftsmanship.
Nik Faiz Nik Amin, Project Leader of Corak Malaysia, shared exciting news about the Corak Malaysia’s future endeavors.
“Corak Malaysia is in the process of applying for Geographical Indicator registration for seven intangible cultural heritage elements in Malaysia that have been recognized by UNESCO,” said Nik Faiz.
“This application, facilitated through WIPO, aims to further protect and promote our nation’s invaluable cultural assets.”
Corak Malaysia’s participation at WIPO and the collaborative exhibition reflect a robust commitment to preserving and promoting Malaysia’s cultural heritage while fostering sustainable practices within the ASEAN creative industry.
